Kildonan Village

Kildonan is a charming village at the Southern end of Arran looking across to the island of Pladda with Ailsa Craig prominent on the horizon.

A popular family holiday destination for many years, Kildonan is 12 miles from Brodick, the island's main town and ferry landing.

The village has a small, licensed general store/post office and one fully licensed hotel, serving bar food all day and has an excellent restaurant.

Pre order your groceries before arrival - call Kildonan Stores on 01770 820 275 or log on to http://www.kildonanstores.co.uk and the shop will deliver to your accommodation.

The sandy beaches at Kildonan are safe for swimming and paddling, and at low tide the reefs and rock pools provide endless interest for children and adults alike being full of shellfish, mussels and winkles.
Renowned for its seals, Kildonan attracts visitors from all over the island. For spectacular views, walk the path along the shore to Black Cave under Bennan Head or take the high route along the cliff.

The island of Pladda is a short boat ride across the water and is home to many seabirds, as is Ailsa Craig, home to the beautiful gannets who dive from considerable heights on to their prey on the sea.

We now have the arrival of a family of sea otters who are regularly visible at dawn or in the evening as they gambol along the beach.

At certain times of the summer dolphins are seen in numbers as are the fins of basking sharks further out in the tide race. All can be seen from the gardens at Kildonan School Houses and magnified with the aid of binnoculars placed in each house.
